Music Classroom: Thursdays, Year 1-6

Engaging in musical activities is proven to be beneficial academically, emotionally, physically and socially. Music lessons at Takari aim to involve many different forms of music-making and responding.

All classes from Years 1 to 6 have one music lesson per week with the Music Specialist.

General Overview –

In all year levels we explore musical elements of beat and rhythm, pitch and melody, dynamics, texture, form and tempo using the skills of singing, listening, moving and playing. This includes reading, writing and playing simple, graphic music notation. We explore the role of music in our lives and in the wider community. There are many opportunities to perform and to learn audience behaviour in both formal and informal settings, in class and at assemblies.

ROCK BANDS – Takari Primary has 2 rock bands that rehearse before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays; a Year 5 and a Year 6 band. Mr Eddie Parise leads and inspires these young musicians, many who have never previously learned an instrument. The bands will perform at WAGSMS Schools Make Music at the Crown Theatre in August.

ASSEMBLY SONG – As a part of their Music lessons, students learn a song that is sung together as a whole school at Assembly. This is a highlight of each Assembly and the students sing with enthusiasm.

Special Events There will be a whole school visit by Team Beat’s “Salaka” drumming hands-on concert in August. This has always been a very popular incursion, as all children are involved in drumming and percussion.
